General information:
Karwia is a small fishing settlement which became a seaside resort in the years between the last two wars. The first written record about Karwia dated 1247. A belt of sand dunes, safeguarded from the sea waves by concrete dikes separates the set-tlement from the sea. South and west of the village stretch vast waterlogged moors. A part of them situated south and south-east of Karwia is known as Bielawskie Bog. Over grown heather fields of the Atlantic type. The locate where the village is currently situated was completely uninhabited. In 1599 Dutchmen were settled here and farmed the bogs.
In 1849, from the population of 201 inhabitants most were employed as fishermen.
Currently Karwia is a village of fishermen and holiday - makers during summer. There is nice sandy beach and fine pine forest.
The fishing harbour is on the open beach. The harbour is connected by road to the settlement.
