Remontowa Shipbuilding has delivered the first of a series of seven multi-purpose platform supply vessels (PSV) of MMC 887 L design, developed by Polish MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting Ltd, Gdynia, to its American owner.
The 90m-long "Bongo" (5,535 dwt) has a deck area of 1,050m2 for the transportation of bulky cargo, containers and other equipment.
The diesel-electric propulsion system consists of four Caterpillar 3512C main engines with an outpout of 1,700 kW each and the vessel uses an electrical network of medium voltage (4.16 kV) and innovative technologies of electrical power frequency control for azimuth propulsion electric motors, according to the Polish shipbuilder.
The DP 2 vessel can be used for oil spill recovery and fire-fighting activities.
"Bongo" is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and will be employed in Brazilian waters.
