Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), Germany, has signed two contracts with Imtech Marine. Both were signed in July, one for a Ro-Pax ferry for Caledonian Maritime Assets of Scottish Limited (CMAL) and another for two offshore vessels for one of the leading seismic companies.
CMAL entrusted FSG with the development and construction of an innovative Ro-Pax ferry, which will enter service in summer 2014. The 116 metre long ferry will meet the highest standards of reliability and availability in order to ensure a 24 hour operation.
Next to the engineering, Imtech Marine will be responsible for the technical coordination and project management for the systems in the field of e-technology, including automation, switchgear, power distribution, lighting, and the entire cable network. In addition, Imtech Marine will plan, supply and install drive components such as converters, electric motors for thrusters and the power management. Internal and external communication via FleetBroadband, VSAT and GMDSS as well as X-and S-band radar, ECDIS, compass, GPS and VDR are part of the navigational scope.
The two 127 metre long offshore vessels are scheduled for 2014 and will then be used throughout the world to discover and exploit oil and gas deposits beneath the seabed. They are especially designed for seismic operations and, in terms of efficiency, comfort, reliability and endurance, guarantee safe operation worldwide including the Arctic regions and in the roughest weather conditions.
Also for these seismic vessels Imtech Marine will take engineering, technical coordination, project management, supply and commissioning of the scope of e-technology, including cable networks, internal and external communications and navigation. Thomas Wolf, project manager at Imtech Marine Germany said that in this challenging project innovative solutions and experience in the construction of seismic vessels are needed, in particular for the very special and unique needs of the electronic chart system and the autopilot. Through various past projects in this area, Imtech is well prepared for this task, he added.
