Shipping company Atlantic Container Line (ACL) recently announced a contract with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co Ltd, China, for the construction of five RoRo/Container (ConRo) vessels.
Responsible for the basic design of the new type G4 ConRo vessels is the Danish naval architecture company Knud E. Hansen AS. It will deliver a full basic design package, including class drawings, general design of hull and outfitting, machinery plant arrangement, HVAC and electrical and automation design.
The newbuildings will be 296m long, 37.6m wide with a design draught of 10.25m. According to ACL, the RoRo-capacity will be 28,900m². Above hatch will be space for 2686 TEU and below hatch for some more 1114 TEU. All RoRo spaces are arranged around the mid-ship area and container bays are located at both ends of the vessel. ACL said that the newbuildings will have adjustable RoRo decks and a better energy efficiency than their predecessors.
