Nordic Yards, a German manufacturer of special ships and maritime projects for the offshore wind and other industries, recently announced a contract to construct a wind turbine service jack-up vessel (WTSJUV) for DBB Jack-Up Services A/S of Aarhus, Denmark, a service provider for the offshore wind turbine industry.
The newbuilding is to be 80m long, 32m wide and equipped with a special jack-up system. Four lifting legs and an onboard crane will allow work in water depths of up to 45m and at heights of up to 100m.
The shipyard said the vessel's design would focus on further development of the jack-up system to lift the ship into the air as a working platform. The WTSJUV will be built at the yard's facilities in Rostock-Warnemünde and Wismar, Germany. Construction is set to start in the spring of 2013, with delivery scheduled a year later. There is also an option for the construction of two more vessels.
