The "Talnakh" was built by the Nordic Yards shipyard group in 2008 |
Nordic Yards, manufacturer of special ships and maritime projects, has completed modifications of the Arctic container ship "Talnakh".
The Russian mining company Norilsk Nickel had commissioned the shipyard group to carry out modernisation work and enlarge the cargo capacity of the vessel. Two loading cranes had been retrofitted, a new harbour diesel generator installed and additional container supports incorporated to provide extra cargo capacity. A further addition was a shelter deck. The underwater section of the "Talnakh" was grit-blasted and new preservation coatings were applied. Delivered in 2008, the "Talnakh" is one of four ACS 650 cargo ships, built by the Wismar and Warnemünde yards for Norilsk Nickel. Operating between the Russian ports of Murmansk and Dudinka, the icebreaking container ship can be used throughout the whole year in Arctic seas. It is capable of breaking ice up to 1.5m.
