Global power systems company Rolls-Royce announced a GBP 10 million contract with Simon Mokster Shipping, Norway, for a wave piercing offshore vessel.

According to Rolls Royce, the 92m-long and 20m-wide vessel with a special bow design has been developed to pierce through the waves even in harsh weather conditions. A more constant speed, the reduction of fuel and an increase of board safety are said to be the results.
Power for the 5,000 dwt newbuilding with a design draught of 6m will be provided by four Rolls-Royce Marine main generator sets and four type C25:33L6ACD Bergen Diesel. Built at the Gondan shipyard, Spain, the vessel with Azipull propellers and a DP2 system will be equipped to undertake oil spill recovery duties. Upon its delivery, which is scheduled for 2014, the newbuilding will go into service for Statoil in the Arctic region.
