International relationships strengthened at CIMPS-Europort 2012
The China International Marine, Port & Shipbuilding Fair & Offshore Technology Exhibition were held in the number one shipbuilding region of China, the Province of Jiangsu, from 23 until 25 May. CIMPS-Europort 2012 was jointly organised for the first time by Ahoy Rotterdam, the organiser of Europort, and UAEC. The Nanjing Expo Center was host to 617 exhibitors and 8,367 professional visitors. Maritime equipment suppliers and ship owners met, many inquiries were done and orders made. The quality of the exhibition has improved significantly which is promising for the coming edition in May 2013.
The brand Europort has a strong reputation in connecting maritime professionals from all over the world. It has been the strategy of Ahoy Rotterdam to organise satellite exhibitions in other important shipbuilding regions such as Romania, Istanbul and Qatar. Raymond Siliakus, Exhibition Manager of Europort: "Having a partnership with UAEC has been of great help in navigating the waters of the Chinese exhibition industry. CIMPS-Europort has proven to be the meeting place for everyone aiming to expand their maritime and offshore business in China. With a Maritime by Holland Pavilion and a Singapore Pavilion, the first international initiatives were already visible. Many successful international relationships were established and strengthened in the three exhibition days."
Among the 617 exhibitors there were 67 overseas exhibitors (11% of total exhibitors) from 18 countries and regions: Netherlands, Singapore, Korea, Japan, USA, Denmark, Austria, Malaysia, Germany, France, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, Italy, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Also 60 well-known shipyards from Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Hubei, Shandong and Jiangxi provinces exhibited at the Nanjing International Expo Center. 17% of the visitors of CIMPS-Europort and of the simultaneously held OTE came from Europe, America and Southeast Asia.
The quality of professional buyers significantly enhanced; 48% of the visitors was manager, 24% purchaser. This was also due to the Indonesian National Ship-owner Association and The Navy Equipment Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army who contributed their full support to organize buyers groups. China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), strongly supported and exhibited on site.
A series of dynamic events was held during CIMPS-Europort & OTE 2012, including amongst others the 4th China Forum on the Development of Steel for Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, Trade Missions to Nantong Shipyards and the 3rd Matchmaking with Chinese Shipbuilding & Offshore Industry. These conferences and events were greatly appreciated in the shipbuilding industry. On 23 May, the Opening Ceremony of CIMPS-Europort & OTE 2012 was grandly held in Nanjing International Expo Center with many distinguished guests present.
